Design of manufacture
The sony C700N came in a compact eco - friendly box posses from recycle material. These earbuds available in different colors in black, white, sage green and lavender colors, all of which have a nice pastel finish, especially with lavender and green pairings. The earbuds reside inside a very slim pill-shaped case with a flat bottom. Like the buds, their case is made of plastic and has a nice shape reminiscent of the back of the Dual Shock 4 controller. The case lid is nice constructed and is to be closed with a tight snap.
The total package includes the buds, case, replicable S and XL - sized silicone tips, a USB C cable for charging. Both Buds with a large physical button that supports single and double taps to a hold gestures.
The C700N's product page explains that their ergonomic design was developed based on Sony's extensive expertise in ear shape data, and I can confirm that these fit my ears well and stayed put after a few hours of use.
Features
The C700N pairing with Bluetooth 5.2 & supports AAC & SBC audio codes but it skips the extreme bitrate apt XHD and LDAC models. You can also get support 4 Sony's Digital Sound Enhancement Engine 4 Sony's 360 experience . The Sony c700n Buds supports Google Fast Pair on Android devices also.
Sony's Head phones Connecting app for Android/iOS is one - stop shop 4 controlling C700N. The app has an nice design and gives you a fine control 4 the equalizer like as noise cancellation and ambient sound varieties.
Automagical switches between noise cancelation and ambient modes based on your surroundings. It has four profiles - stay, walk, run and transit.
The WF-C700N brings custom Sony 5mm dynamic drivers. You also get Sony's focus on a voice setting that senses when you're talking to someone around you and instantly turns on ambient mode without pausing your audio.
There's also no wireless charging so you'll have to make do with USB-C for top-ups.
Performance and sound quality
You need not to play music to experience the difference 4 public transport commutes or when you need to focus without any distractions. Testing this earphones in an home environment drowns out all the like the AC, cooler and the constant chaos of the homeplace.
Noise cancellation on the C700N isn't quite at the level of Sony's premium WF-1000X4 earbuds, but that's good considering the C700N comes in a lighter form factor and costs less.
Ambient mode works in the campaign by allowing enough outside noise from your surroundings to come in handy when walking around downtown or going for a run. You can also manually adjust how much sound is allowed through the Ambient Sound mode's 20-level slider.
The Adaptive Sound Control feature, which toggles between noise cancellation and ambient mode based on your activity, also worked well during our testing. Ambient mode usually takes a few seconds to turn on when I get up to walk around, and ANC mode resumes shortly after I take a seat.
Moving on to sound performance, the C700N brings a balanced sound profile that is advertised to reach the standard 20 Hz - 20,000 Hz hearing range. There are a total of eight presets here, and you can even create up to three custom profiles.
I found the Excited EQ to be good for most types of music, but you can adjust all eight modes to your liking. The CN700N is also pretty loud if you need it to be. Sony's model DSEE audio upscale never make a noticeable difference when testing minute bitrate audio sources.
Call quality is a step up from similarly priced earbuds with others reporting my voice clearly and naturally. Strong winds can muffle the experience but the same is true with premium earbuds.
Physical operate of button control in the buds works fine every time. Connectivity performance was on point with no dropouts while testing on iPhone, Android tablet and MacBook.
Battery backup
Sony advertises 7.5 - 8 hours of playback (with ANC on) for the earbuds, but their charging case extends the total run time to 15 hours.. The charging case also gives one full recharge of the buds after batteries depleted.
A full 100 % recharge round for the earbuds takes nearly 90 minutes, as like as the case requires 3 hours to gain full 100%. A fast 10 mnt charge gives you an one hour of playback.
